LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – A special election for the new provincial federation president of the Liga ng mga Barangay (LNB) in Pangasinan called by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is set on Dec. 9 following the death of the incumbent president due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In an interview on Wednesday, DILG provincial director Paul Lalata Jr. said the “rule of succession” could not be applied because there is no elected vice president of the league.
“(Thus) the only option is to conduct a special election,” he said.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan seat of the late LNB provincial federation president, board member Jose Peralta Jr., became vacant after he succumbed to Covid-19.
He said Mangatarem LNB federation president Richard Palisoc was elected as the temporary presiding officer during the meeting of the LNB presidents from various towns and cities in the province held on Dec. 1.
The order of business and rules for the conduct of a smooth and orderly election on Dec. 9 was finalized during the special meeting.
Lalata added the National Liga Executive Board shall issue a certificate of confirmation within 15 days after the election to whoever will be elected as the new LNB provincial federation president.
“The newly elected LNB president will present the certificate of confirmation to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan as his credential to have a post in the provincial board,” he said. (PNA)
